CHARACTER MEANINGS

The Japanese word for DAIKOKUTEN is daikokuten, written in kanji as 大黒天.

大黒天 (Daikokuten) is one of the Seven Lucky Gods in Japanese mythology, associated with wealth, prosperity, and a bountiful harvest.

This god comes originally from Hinduism where he is known as Mahākāla. This name translates to English as "great black one", which is also how the kanji were chosen to represent this god's name in Japanese. The first character 大 (dai) means "big" or "large", the second character 黒 (koku) means "black", and the third character 天 (ten) means "heaven" or "divine being".
