CHARACTER MEANINGS

The Japanese word for EBISUTEN is ebisuten, written in kanji as 恵比寿天.

恵比寿天 (Ebisuten, often just Ebisu) is one of the Seven Lucky Gods in Japanese mythology and is associated with good fortune, prosperity, and abundance. He's also the patron god of fishermen, and is the only one of the "Seven Lucky Gods" to originate entirely from Japan.

恵比寿天 is a compound of four kanji, each with their own meanings. The first character, 恵 (e), signifies blessings, favor, or mercy, indicating a sense of beneficence. The second character, 比 (bi), means to compare or to race, but in this context, it is more likely used for phonetic purposes rather than its literal meaning. The third kanji, 寿 (su), represents longevity or lifespan, often used in contexts celebrating life and longevity. The last character, 天 (ten), translates to heaven or sky, and is commonly used in religious or spiritual contexts.
